The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (for example, name and contact details).

  • Transaction data including details about payments to and from you.

  • Sensitive data including information about your health, your existing and previous medical conditions, medication details, psychiatric history and any other relevant health information to enable us to carry out our services to you.

In addition, this website collects personal data to power our site analytics, including:

  • information about your browser, network, and device;

  • web pages you visited prior to coming to this website;

  • your IP address.

This information may also include details about your use of this website, including:

  • clicks,

  • internal links,

  • pages visited,

  • scrolling,

  • searches, and

  • timestamps.

We share this information with Squarespace, our website analytics provider, to learn about site traffic and activity.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • You make an enquiry through our website.

  • We speak to you on the phone about your needs.

  • You enter into an agreement to purchase psychological services.

  • You commence psychological therapy or other services such as consultation.

We may also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • From parents in relation to their children, for the same reasons as above.

  • From referral sources such as schools and other independent practitioners, when they make a referral to us.

We use the information that you have given us in order to:

  • decide if we can provide an appropriate service;

  • develop an explanation (“formulation”) of difficulties being experienced;

  • provide psychological therapy or other psychological services such as consultation.

When we would share your information

We may share some of this information with relevant parties such as family, schools, your GP, other health practitioners, and social care services. This will usually be with your express permission, in order to provide a service; however, there may be some circumstances where we are required to share information without your consent according to the law and professional practice guidelines. This includes:

  • when doing so would reduce the risk of harm;

  • when we are required to by a court order or witness summons.

It is good practice for psychological professionals to undertake regular formal supervision. As part of these sessions it may be necessary to discuss your personal data, including sensitive information, with the supervisor, who will also be a qualified professional operating under terms of confidentiality. We will not share with a supervisor any personal data that could be used to directly identify you.

Our legal basis for processing information

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

(a) Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting Thriving Teen Psychology using the contact details given above.

(b) We have a contractual obligation.

(c) We have a legal obligation.

(d) We have a legitimate interest.

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored in Google Workspace, protected from unauthorised access by two-factor identification.

Site analytics data relating to your use of your website is kept for a period of seven days before deletion.

We keep information (including general and sensitive personal data) relating to enquiries about psychological services for three months. If no further action is taken on your part – that is, you do not enter into an agreement to purchase psychological services - we will then dispose of this information by deleting it.

According to guidelines provided by the British Psychological Society, we keep information (including general and sensitive personal data) relating to psychological services (including therapy) undertaken for 7 years for patients seen as adults, and until age 26 for patients seen as children. We will then dispose of your information by deleting it.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
